Type - Cable Type Computer Networks

1. Coaxial cable
kabel coaxialCoaxial cable is one type of computer network cable classic, and is now almost never used again for the use of the cable network in a computer network system. Coaxial cable is a type of cable that consists of copper wire, coated up by an insulator, a conductor, and then on the outside of the coaxial cable is protected using PVC material. Sekila, it is the same coaxial cable as the antenna cable television.

- Use of Coaxial Cable

In use on the network, coaxial cable is now replaced by a function Twisted Pair cable which will be discussed hereafter. Typically, this coaxial cable used on the network type that have a bus network topology and ring topology.

The use of a coaxial cable that is not used is nothing but a consequence of some disadvantages of being owned by the coaxial cable itself.

     - Weakness coaxial cable

One major disadvantage of this jens coaxial cable in the network is because it has the range and quality of transmitting data is limited, so it is rarely used. In addition, the coaxial cable is also considered less flexible, especially when compared to the twisted pair cable.

2. Twisted Pair

Twisted PairAs the name implies, twisted pair, this type of cable has a physical shape in the form of pairs of cable wires are mounted berilit one another, forming a spiral. This kind of cable is a type of cable that is currently the most widely and are also commonly used for the creation of a local network or LAN.
Twisted pair cable has three main cable types, following some kind of twisted pair cable, and its characteristics - characteristics

   -
UTP (unshielded twisted pair)
UTP cable in its application does not support a protection or protection from the collection of the spiral. Because it does not have the protection of any kind on the part of the cord, then the type of UTP cable has a major drawback, namely the very vulnerable and sensitive to high voltages and magnetic fields. UTP cables are widely used in the cable telephone network, and also a small network

    -
FTP (foiled twisted pair)
FTP has better specs than the UTP cable, because cable layer is protected by a kind of foil, so this makes cable type FTP memiliiki better resistance to noise and magnetic interference compared with UTP cable

   -
STP (shielded twisted pair)
Similar to the cable FTP, STP cable also has a layer of protection in the cord. What distinguishes only material used to coat the pairnya twisted cable arrangement. STP also has a good ability in counteracting noise and magnetic interference.
Although practically FTP cable and STP cable also to have a lot of advantages over UTP, however, UTP cable is still a favorite in use on a computer network. Things that make UTP cables are still widely used is the economic factor, where the type of UTP cable has a price much cheaper than the cable jga FTP and STP. This causes the UTP cable is still the first choice in the manufacture of tissue.
3. Fiber Optics
fiber optikThe third type of network cable is a fiber optic cable network. A fiber optic cable is a type of cable that consists of a collection of fiber - fiber, with a smaller size and also more flexible than the twisted pair cable.

The use of fiber optic cables
Initially, the fiber optic cable is used only for special purposes, such as on the backbone network at a large company. But over time, using fiber optic networks are becoming increasingly popular and are used for networking purposes in general, even the current internet network in your house too many have been using fiber optic connectivity mendukng

4. STP cable

Cable STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) is one type of cable used in computer networks. This cable contains two pair cable (four-wire), each pair twisted (twisted). Each cable in the form of a cable with single core copper wire berisolator. The fourth cable is wrapped with woven fiber cable which serves as a protective and grounding (shielded). As the outer protective layer is an insulator which is a leather cord. This cable is capable of transmitting ata up to 16 Mbps with a maximum distance of 100 meters.

5. Network Interface Card (NIC)
Network Interface Card is a card means electronic board planted on any computer connected to the network. There are three things to be aware of Suati NIC card type, protocol type, and the type of cable supports. There are two types of cards, the PCI and ISA.In terms of protocol, protocol type which is currently the most widely used is Ethernet and Fast Ethernet, the other IBM Token Ring and ARCNet. In selecting the card had to adjust to the type of cable that has been / will be installed. If summarized from the characteristics that determine the type of card is a combination of the following:

PCI (UTP)

PCI (UTP - BNC)

PCI Combo (UTP - BNC - AUI)

ISA (UTP)

ISA (UTP - BNC)

ISA Combo (UTP - BNC - AUI)
